Every 15 minutes? I'm pretty sure that that's why you're seeing a drain. I have mine set to an hour (for mail, weather, and Twitter) and I'm not seeing any decrease in battery life. I'm on an iPhone 4 running 4.0.1.

lockinfo is very nice looking - but it drains the battery very quickly, even though the only thing I have to auto-update is email every 15 minutes.
Right now am using the trial, and I even did think about purchasing it, because it really is usefull, but because of the battery usage it consumes on the iphone, I will sadly, not use it further.

If you are thinking about purchasing this item, think about these words. in 2 hours the battery level has come down from 35% to 14% - this means you will have to recharge your phone 3 - 4 times each day.

I noticed the battery drainage with lockscreen too, it is still a great app and beats unlocking the phone for call and mail information.

I'm glad you ditched that BlackBerry :).

Anyway, whenever new email arrives, the Mail icon on your homescreen should have a red circle in the upper-right, indicating that there is new/unread email, as well as the number of new/unread email. Going to the initial Mail page should list all of your accounts. To the right of each account should be the number of new/unread email. It's really streamlined and easy when dealing with multiple email accounts (in my opinion). I have 5 accounts, each getting dozens of emails everyday, and find Mail in iOS 4 to be very nice and simple.

Regarding this post - These are jailbroken applications. The iPhone 4 isn't yet jailbroken, so you can't install these applications, but these are just to give you a notification on your lockscreen of new things, such as email, SMS, etc.

Maybe someone can give me some advise. I'm a new iphone 4 user and made he transition from a Blackberry bold. Right now I am very unhappy about the way the iphone handles email notification. Let me explain why and maybe one of you can tell me which one of these apps can fill the void.

First, I have 8 e-mail accounts. Yes, perhaps this is a lot, but they are all very specific, each relating to some aspect of my business, my position as an officer in Civil Air Patrol, Filmmaker, etc. In any case, on the Blackberry, each of these accounts was represented by a separate icon. What is visible on the home screen is a unified mail icon, the same as on the iphone. Click it and all the emails from all the accounts are combined. I rarely if ever used that. But now to the core of the matter.

When an email was received by any of the accounts, the first thing that would happen is that a red LED would start blinking on the top right front of the phone. You could also make it make a sound and/or vibrate. This immediately alerted you to receipt of an email across any of the accounts or a text message. Clicking any key then woke up the screen. There the one email visible on the home screen had a red icon, indicating new mail. Clicking the "return key" to the left of the trackball then drilled you down to the rest of the phone's icons (that you chose to be visible) and among them were the EIGHT icons, each representing an individual email account. On the one of more accounts (represented by an envelop icon) that had new mail, appeared a red star on the corner.

Again...simple...you get an email, are alerted by the blinking LED, click to wake up the home page, click on the return key, and then see precisely which email account HAS NEW MAIL.

The iphone 4 does not do this. It is very frustrating, not just because I am new to it, but because when I unlock the phone and see I have new mail there is absolutely no indication (other than a change in a number on the mail account page, that appears next to each account name). There is no red icon. The number of emails could be red to indicate new mail...anything. I find myself just searching through the various accounts to find the new mail or going to the unified mail icon - which I prefer not to do -- it does not enable me to quickly reference past mail in the same account.

Do any of the applications discussed her preform the function I have described by previding a separate head's up on the locked page? Perhaps one of them enables you yo position an icon for each e-mail account on this page and provide an indication as to which has new mail waiting?

I would appreciate any and all help. Because of the volume of mail I receive each day and how I use this feature, it might be a deal breaker for my transition to the iphone!

hbmorrismarketing@gmail.com

I'm using intelliscreen and I love it. Setting up the categories did take a little time but its great for privacy. The front screen I have my news and weather and the back screen when I double tap, I have all my personal information (calender, mail, sms). The average iphone user who picks up my phone wouldn't be able to access my personal information unlike some of the other lockscreens where all the information is right there infront of you when they turn on the phone.

Its been a while since its been updated. The thing about it coming with paid software isn't too big of a deal. You don't have to use them, they just have to be installed. You won't get nagged about paying for them either.

Great write-up. Having just jailbroken yesterday, modding my lockscreen has been one of my top priorities. I think I'm going to have to try quickwidgets first, just because it's free, but if that doesn't meet expectations, I guess it will have to be lockinfo

[...] Well LockInfo ($4.99) can certainly do all that while not being too flashy or a resource hog. You can also set LockInfo as a SpringBoard page to use it while the phone isn't locked. It's close to being the "all-in-one" info pane everyone wants to see in iPhone OS 4.0. The latest update now can even do some pretty nice stuff with push notifications. SmartScreen (free lite version, $4.99 full version) looks nicer but the tradeoff is performance, so SmartScreen is virtually unusable on anything but the latest generation hardware (iPhone 3GS, 3rd-gen iPod touch). There's also Cydget and QuickWidgets. I haven't tried either one. Here's a good rundown of the different options: iPhone Lockscreen Battle [...]

I'm thrilled to see that you all are enjoying LockInfo. LockInfo 2.0 is almost ready for release with some nice new features:

- Email previews on the lockscreen.
- Mark emails and SMS as read directly from the lockscreen.
- Push notification support.
- Improved performance and stability.
- Improved email handling.

Just as a note the article author - I didn't write 5 icon dock (though it's some nice work). That one belongs to Saurik. I did Reflective Dock.

Hi Brian,

i set my iphone to receive Push Mails for MS Exchange. I expect the battery life to last shorter than usual. But, is it a norm for the battery life to be reduced by approx 20%. (Main reason why i love LockInfo is also because it informs me of any missed emails and upcoming appts.)

I have introduced it to a few of my colleagues and they loved it. Unfortunately, because of the reduction in battery life, we are finding it a challenge to use the phone for our whole work day (0800hrs - 0000hrs). Usually, with LockInfo enabled, my phone will reach abt 10% battery life by 2000hrs.

To aid in optimization :
- I receive approx 30 emails a day.
- I seldom use the phone to surf the net or play games.
- I did not use my phone to listen to music.

Hi,

i have tried using LockInfo and feel that it is a wonderful application to have. It provides me with all the information i require (notification for email, sms, missed calls.)

Unfortunately, i realised that the battery seems to be drained at a faster rate. My battery seems to last 20% shorter with LockInfo enabled. Battery used to last at least for 16hrs per charge but with LockInfo enabled, it only last for 12hrs.

I am not sure if other users are having similar experiences. If so, maybe this app can be improved to optimise the battery life.

This is no doubt still a great app.

I just updated Lockinfo, and now it only show emails from my SPAM folder? Whats up with that? I've tried to reinstall it, delte it, then install it again etc. But no go. I even deleted the spam emails from my email-client, but they still show up on the lockinfo screen.

Anyone got a fix for this?

I just updated Lockinfo, and now it only show emails from my SPAM folder? Whats up with that? I've tried to reinstall it, delte it, then install it again etc. But no go. I even deleted the spam emails from my email-client, but they still show up on the lockinfo screen.

Anyone got a fix for this?

What about LockCalendar. It really only offers calendar info but it does it and it does it very well.

Boy am I glad you posted this... I've been trying to find a good lock screen mod for awhile now. Only one I've tried out of these is Intelliscreen, and I wasn't too impressed. I've been using LockCalendar, but I'd really like to have more than just calendar info on the lock screen.

I'm gonna go give LockInfo a try. Thanks for the article!!
