Do not buy the "free memory" app in the app store, that one is a total scam.

I'm going to jailbreak my device and try this app.

I found where the virtual memory is located: /var/vm
There is a 256 mb file there called swapfile0
I would not recommend deleting it. You may have to restore. If you are considering restoring anyways, though, then it's worth a try.

I uninstalled sbsettings because I think it slows down my iPod Touch 2g also. I installed a 99 cent app store app, "Free Memory" and it is working with with this. I see > 70 MB free and it makes all the difference for multitasking and just general stability and performance. Huge win.

Okay, I just discovered the separate program SBSettings and have installed it. While I have only just installed the iMemory and SBSettings programs, they seem to greatly speed my iPhone 3G with iOS 4.0 running on T-Mobile. Reminds me of my old Apple II days.

Damn! Couldn't survive 24 hours without this. Reinstalled just now. I think that it doesn't quite return things to normal after uninstalling. Uninstalled and almost any app would crash and even got a freeze on a low mem app. I recommend caution. This definitively works but not stable enough. Trade-off between more apps and mem VS stability. Probably the only way to fully get rid of it is a restore...

sbsettings slows down my 3g with 4.0 more than this vm seems to help. When I run MemTool it still displays a maximum of 37MB free whereas sbsettings claims I have 50 or more free. Is sbsettings memory status misleading? Or can it see memory that MemTool can't?

looks like it's working ok in iOS 4. I disabled native multitasking and am just going to use backgrounder which has always been great. I'm getting peak 75mb after Free Memory in sbs. I even took off winterboard to save memory but I might put that back on. I was running Glasklart and that put me down to 10mb free at boot.

using 3G with iOS 4 jb via pwnagetool and unlocked via ultrasn0w.

SBSettings is required for this and iPhoneVM to work properly. I have
a 3G. I heard that this allows over 200MB free memory on the 3GS. You
should have SBSettings anyway, since it's pretty much a must-have.

I tried iPhoneVM1 & iPhoneVM2 and neither of them seemed to work except I didn't have SBSettings, I had some other memory tool which I forget the name of. Will SBSettings make that much of a difference, the other memory tool had a free memory option. I guess it can't hurt to try it, right?
Anyway, do you have the 3GS or 3G?

This package is pretty much iPhoneVM 1. iPhoneVM 2 is slightly different. They both basically do the same thing, but in a slightly different way.
