[How-To] Windows Phone 7 Series Emulator

Want to check out Windows Phone 7 Series before it hits the stores? Instructions on how to run the emulator (with all of the applications unlocked) are after the jump.

There are 4 things that you need to download. It’s quite a bit of downloading, but you need all of it for any of this to even work.

  1. Visual Studio 2010 Express
  2. Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7
  3. .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
  4. Hacked Emulator ROM (Multiple Mirrors)

Once all 4 things are downloaded, install the first 3, and extract the hacked ROM to your desktop. Rename this ROM to “WM70C1.bin”. Head over to C:\Program Files (or x86)\Microsoft SDKs\WindowsPhone\v7.0\Emulation\Images, and rename the “WM70C1.bin” to “WM70C1.bak.bin”. Take the one on your desktop and move it to the Images folder.

Next, start “Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone”, make a new project, then start the simulator.

- Enjoy!
