It's misleading because the instructions say: “…choose the 4.0 beta 4 3G IPSW file” The instructions have nothing to do with the GM. I can confirm that redsn0w doesn't work with the GM.

I removed your last line as it's misleading to my readers.

It's just a simple exploit that redsn0w uses to use the 4.0 beta 4 IPSW to jailbreak the GM firmware.

It certainly sounds very simple and it appeared to work however Cydia has no icon art and simply crashes each time I start it respringing my device. I updated to iOS 4 GM then used redsnow and the 4.0 Beta like you said. Maybe I'll try again.

It would appear that trying again while selecting already jailbroken and install cydia has gotten it to load now. Still no icon art for cydia tho.

The white icon is normal until you actually get into Cydia and do the complete upgrades.

Whenever I run redsn0w and it jailbreaks it i lose all iphone features except for itunes. I have no phone icon, mail, or message icons etc.

the statusbar shows the free memory of the device, is is this normal? cause winterboard and sbsettings are not running and springboard crashes everytime i have installed winterboard or sb manager/settings.

could it be that multitasking doesn´t work right or isn´t real multitasking?, cause apps appear in the dock when i doubblepress the homebutton but when i jump between apps they have to be reloaded everytime i open them.

1) Try using 12-hour time?
2) Did you restore from a jailbroken backup? If so, then this is why. Some of your jailbroken tweaks are backed up via iTunes and can be restored.
3) Please read up on Apple's multitasking implementation. They clearly state that the app has to be updated for multitasking to work.

The MC model iPod Touch's require a lot more work. The iPhone-Dev Team (and others) are coming up with gerat exploits, so a jailbreak shouldn't take more than a few weeks.

I myself have an mb model.

The 8GB iPod Touch 3G is TECHNICALLY a iPod Touch 2G, as they have the same exact parts. The 32GB/64GB iPod Touch 3G's are the real ones.

Keep in mind that these guys DO do this in their spare time and do this stuff for no money at all. You should respect that . Plus, these things take time. Expecting a jailbreak on release day is crazy talk. It's certainly possible, but there's a lot of other variables to consider (like whether or not Apple will patch an exploit, etc).

You have to give redsn0w the GM IPSW file, not the official download from iTunes.

I'm having problems with it too… Books won't completely finish installing.

so I have downloaded the latest redsn0w 0.9.5b-4, used the same ipsw file and unfortunately I have the same problem as many others. The file is not recognized.
I did a same think with old redsn0w today and file is recognized properly.

As mentioned in the post, the latest versions of redsn0w require the official IPSW, not the GM.

You did NOT read the instructions, nor the post. The MC model iPT2G is NOT supported.
