ih8sn0w has released sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 for Windows, which is equivalent to PwnageTool for Mac OS X. Click here if you’d like to try that out. Also works for the 3GS.

Apple has just released iOS 4 to the public. If you’ve downloaded the public release (via iTunes), you can still jailbreak it with redsn0w, but you’ll need to give redsn0w the GM IPSW (can be found here).

You can easily jailbreak your iPhone 3G or iPod Touch 2G running the 4.0 GM, so that you can do things like enable native multitasking and add a home screen wallpaper. It’s very easy to do! It’s very simple. Download redsn0w, run it, choose the same IPSW file that you used to install the iOS 4 GM onto your device, and continue on with the jailbreak. More details after the jump.

*This DOES NOT work with the MC-model 8GB iPod Touch 2G! Don’t ask when it’ll be out.*

It’s very simple. Download redsn0w, run it, choose the same IPSW file that you used to install the iOS 4 GM onto your device, and continue on with the jailbreak. That’s it! You’re jailbroken on the final version of iOS 4. You can also enable options like home screen wallpaper and multitasking from within redsn0w (if you wish).

    just some background: i have ipod touch 2g with 2.0 firmware by default but have upgraded to 3.0 firmware for free by a tut i found on youtube (now i have ios4 using the same method), i have never jailbroken before

    Please help me with this one. It may sound very very basic, but… I've upgraded my iPhone3G to iOS4 using iTunes. How do I find this IPSW file that you're talking about? RedsnOw doesn't go further along without it. Also, where does the PwnageTool 4.01 (that I've already downloaded) come in the picture? Thanks in advance.

    got the same problems here with my iPod touch 2g mc-model.

    i took the the GM IPSW file

    and redsn0w doesn´t go further.

    after using pwnage-tool the iPod isn´t jailbroken.

    how comes that? i followed the instructions step by step. really.

    I've used GM ipsw and redsn0w 0.9.5b5-1 – so far everythink works fine except iBooks (downloaded book is not showed in iBooks)

    so I have downloaded the latest redsn0w 0.9.5b-4, used the same ipsw file and unfortunately I have the same problem as many others. The file is not recognized.
    I did a same think with old redsn0w today and file is recognized properly.

    Am I doing somethink wrong ?

    As mentioned in the post, the latest versions of redsn0w require the official IPSW, not the GM.

    You did NOT read the instructions, nor the post. The MC model iPT2G is NOT supported.

    When I take my iPhone into DFU mood after that the redsnow work and download some stuff into my iphone. but when it says waiting for reboot bt iphone doesnt reboot instead it goes to recovery mood. hw can i solve it?

    You're supposed to use the OFFICIAL IPSW, not the GM.

    when u download 4.0 while saving the file in ur desktop add .ipsw after restore …then it will recognize the file

    hey guys I have the ipod touch 4g 4.3.3 firmware and there’s nothing wrong with t just the redsnow application. You see I have mac 10.5.8 so that can’t be the problem. I am hoping for suggestions. this is what it says when trying to open the application.
    “you can not open the application “redsnow” because it is not supported on this architecture
