[Review] Macally MSUITP4 “silicon” case for iPhone 4

Available for $29.99 directly from Macally, the MSUITP4 TPU case for the Apple iPhone 4 is a rather simple “silicon”[e] case for the iPhone 4. The back has a nice texture to it, which results in better grip. Read the full review after the jump.

Packaging

As with all Macally products, the packaging is simple, with a clear plastic outside. All you get in the package is the case, a fake iPhone 4 that folds out and reveals some of Macally’s other products, and a little instructional sheet that tells you how to use the integrated “Sticky Swipe”, which is this little pad that stick to the back of the case that lets you clean your iPhone wherever and whenever you want.

Installation

Since this is a silicone case, you can install it however you’d like. You may need to “massage” the case a little bit so that it properly fits your phone.

Port/Button coverage

On the top of the case is a covered power button, and a nice cutout for the 3.5mm headphone jack and noise cancellation microphone. On the left side is a big cutout for the silent switch and the 2 volume buttons. The bottom of the case is completely exposed for the microphone, 30-pin dock connector, and speaker. The back of the case has a nice cutout for the camera and flash, that I call the “peanut” cutout.

Design/Material

The case is an all-black silicone case. The back has a nice texture to it, which results in a good amount of grip. The overal design is quite basic. There is slight frontal coverate, as a part of the case covers a little bit of the front. There’s a nice lay-on-the-table design with this case.

Protection

You get a great amount of protection with the MSUITP4. Everything you can ask for is covered in some way. Since this is a silicone case, you’ll get a good amount of shock protection (should you drop the case).

Pros

  • Integrated screen cleaner on the back of the case
  • Good shock protection
  • Nice sized cutouts
  • Decent design

Cons

  • Price

Final thoughts

Compared to the other 2 iPhone 4 cases by Macally that I’ve reviewed, this one is by-far the best case. There aren’t any problems with the power button being held down, and you get a great amount of protection. It has a good grip in the hand, and overall, is a great case. The price could come down a little bit, but the quality of the case is good enough to where $30 is reasonable.
