iOS 4.1 GM for all device here

Apple today has announced that they will be released iOS 4.1 sometime next week, probably on Friday the 10th. It was seeded to developers (the GM, so it’s the final version) this afternoon. Unless you’re a developer, you can’t get the iOS 4.1 GM, until now. Multiple download links for all devices are below.

DO NOT INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE IF YOU’RE WORRIED ABOUT A JAILBREAK OR AN UNLOCK!

YOU DO NOT NEED A DEV ACCOUNT TO INSTALL THIS!

YOU DO NOT NEED ITUNES 10 TO INSTALL THIS! ITUNES 9.x.x IS FINE!

You may be asking, “how does one install this?”. It’s quite simple. Either ALT/Option+Click (Mac) or Shift+Click (Windows) on “Update”, or “Restore”, depending on what you’d like to do. Update will simply update whatever version of iOS you’re on to this 4.1. Restoring will remove everything that’s on it and install a clean copy of iOS 4.1.

So are you saying this will work even for people without a developers account?

do you know how much longer for the iphone 4?

  • shire

    Hi!

Thanks brian. Hate my 3G during the last weeks.

    Bye.

  • Iphone 3G User

    Thanks for sharing!
Can’t wait to see my 3G run like it did with 3.1.3

I hope you haven’t manipulated the files with an virus etc.

  • Eternalplayer

Just completed the update on a 3G and all seems to be good. Initial tests show improvements if you are using and old iPhone 3G. Seems to fix the iphone just locking up as it did previously on iOS4 with any of the old 3g models I have used in the last few weeks. Mine was practically a snail and so painful to use the last two months. Still waiting for my iPhone 4.

Is iTunes 10 needed to update? I am not seeing it available on Apple’s site or when I check for updates in iTunes.

  • Pfd2703

Just FYI the official drop is on Sept 8th. I’m testing to see if the newest redsn0w will work with this. Will reply afterwards!

When will the jailbreak come out for 4.1? anyone has any idea?

Do we need iTunes 10 in order to use the firmware?

  • http://gumballtech.com brian

    No. iTunes 9.x.x works fine.

How are people able to use this ipsw (iphone 4), when I use shift & restore and this file in iTunes, it fails when contacting the Apple update server.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HU2DMKUEM5DOYCYFX5XSEROHI4 larry siegmann

why wont my itunes read the file? shift+update reads the file but wont do anything else?

  • Q

    Dawn,
Just did the shift+click on update and it worked fine (iPhone 4).

  • Knockoutboy677

If i DO upgrade to the goldmaster, can i upgrade to the Official one when it releases?

  • Anonymous

So assume this firmware should work on 10 too?

  • http://gumballtech.com brian

Yes. Works fine on 9 and 10.

  • http://gumballtech.com brian

That would be pointless. The golden master IS the same build as what will be released next week. There will be no need to upgrade to anything else. A new update won’t even show up in iTunes.

  • Knockoutboy677

and will any of my apps stop working?

  • Maxx90

    Never Mind hahaha!

Do we press “Shift + Update” or “Shift + Restore”?

  • http://gumballtech.com brian

It depends on if you want to update or restore. The differences are already explained.

Would you mind posting the SHA-1 hashes for the original files? I downloaded from a different site, and I just want to verify that the file is untouched.

iTunes 9.2.x.x and Windows7 64bit. Shift+Update/Restore not working. I’ve searched everywhere and tried everything. Nothing works.

I enabled the “root” Administrator account. That is the primary account I use on the PC. Doesn’t matter whether I “Run as Administrator”, or not because I already am. I’ve tried XP compatibility modes. NOTHING works. Has anybody found a fix for this?

I think I may have a bricked iPhone after trying to use this update…more updates to come.

  • Mike

Sorry for the scare. iPhone is not bricked, but I did get the ‘Connect to iTunes’ scare screen after giving me an error message when trying to update. Had to do a restore, will try again after it’s finished restoring.

  • Peter

Can I try it too? I’m using an iPod touch 2G MC model and a Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit computer with iTunes 10.

  • Mike

Ok, was able to restore the phone after the original error when trying to update to 4.1. After restore, I tried updating again by ‘alt-shift’ clicking on Update and chosing the 4.1 and it seems to be working!

  • Mike

Did you get Game Center to work? It’s not even displaying on my phone…

  • Lunaandres

    What device did you use?
Redsnow only works wit ipt2G, iPhone 3G, and 3GS with old bootrom (I THINK)

  • Mitchell

Guys, you need to have iTunes 10 for it to work to the best of it’s abilities!

  • Grant

Does iOS 4.1 give iPhone 3G users custom home screen wallpapers?

  • http://gumballtech.com brian

    Not unless you jailbreak.

  • Grant

Possibly in iOS 4.2 they may release home screen wallpapers for iPhone 3G users. It isn’t a huge deal but it’s something I’d like to have to give my iPhone a new look!
