FAQ

A lot of people will ask simple questions that have simple answer. We’ve put some of the more common ones in a little FAQ.
[spoiler show="Show FAQ" hide="Hide FAQ"]

What’s a GM?

If you don’t know what GM is, it stands for “Gold Master”, a term that means that the particular software version is either final, or close to final. Due to past experiences with Apple firmwares, the GM ends up being the final release version.

Do I need a developer account for this?

NO, you DON’T need a dev account for this.

Do I need Windows or Mac OS X?

Either one, it doesn’t matter.

Do I need iTunes 10.1?

iOS 4.2 requires iTunes 10.1. Anything earlier than that will not work.

What if I’m jailbroken/unlocked?

Stay away from this, for now.

Here you go :) . Regarding iTunes 10.1: When you install it, the installer/readme will say 10.0.1 (or something like that), but it’s actually installing 10.1. Don’t worry.

Why not just update to the final version of iTunes 10.1? I’ve had lots and lots of problems using the betas.

Strange, I had the same problem with the first beta, except the ios4 install would fail leaving me with the orig screen when you got the thing. Finally got iso4 loaded and the apps back via of reselecting them, got the 1/4 restore synced, had to dink and dink, 2 days work, all data and settings lost. This is on a Windoze 64 bit machine, never again a 64 bit Windoze machine or anything Microsoft. Ask me how my network printing is working to my Mac on this piece of $1,800 junk.

Would have used my Mac for supporting the ipad, but, g4, couple of MHZ below the new OS limits. sigh.

I am having a wifi problelms with the first GM1, but, going to stick it up for the release.

Hmm, weird. Must’ve just been your setup. 4.2.1 restored onto my iPad via my Win7 Professional x64 machine without a hitch.
