WiMM Paves The Wearable Way With An Android Based Module

WiMM One

An interview with the core team at WiMM (Wearable Imagination) was posted on 9to5Google detailing the WiMM One Module and the planned ecosystem surrounding it. Designed as a programmable, wearable module, the device is anything you want it to be! WiMM Labs is also rolling out a “Micro-App” store where apps of all kind are sold, similar to the Android Market, and iOS’s App Store. WiMM Labs has released a half dozen or so “Micro-Apps” covering standard usages, including time-based apps (watch, alarm clock, etc.), displaying weather feeds, stock feeds, RSS feeds, you name it! It’s also able to control any cellular phone, iPhone included. Hit the jump for the video!

The WiMM One is a 1″ square screen with 160×160 resolution, packing a variable frequency (100 MHz Max) ARM 11 with 512MB Flash, 256MB Mobile DDR RAM, and a 2 GB embedded micro SD card. The small device packs a punch with built in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, an accelerometer, a magnetometer, and a battery that can run all day, no sweat. Typical mock-ups show it worn as a watch, but it can be worn in nearly any way imaginable! The company is hoping to partner with software and hardware devs and embed their device in a multitude of wearable technology. The idea sounds compelling and with rumors starting to heat up about a possible watch based iOS device, their timing couldn’t be more perfect!

Dev kits are currently selling at Amazon for $199 and all your favorite Android development tools will work on the system.
